Who We Are

Children of Abraham Day was created by Detroit area entrepreneur and philanthropist Farhat Qazi to encourage and promote religious unity and understanding in Michigan and around the country of the three monotheistic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

The origins of these three monotheistic religions are linked to one common religious tradition that goes back to the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and are traced to the descendant sons of Ibrahim (Abraham). These three religions all share a common belief in God, along with common beliefs of love, charity and moral behavior, which serve as the backbone for each religion.

Recognizing and celebrating the common origins and beliefs of Judaism, Christianity and Islam can help to dispel misconceptions and misunderstanding between members of these great religions and serve as a basis and opportunity to unite members of these faiths. Showing the commonality of these religions will lead to mutual respect and good will in today’s divided world. Teaching children the common origins of these religions is key to future peace and harmony, leading to better understanding and will lessen the hatred among members of these three great monotheistic religions.

The goal of Children of Abraham Day is to promote understanding and positivity.

What We Do

In recognizing the importance of fostering this greater understanding, Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, approved a proclamation, proposed and written by Farhat Qazi, for Children of Abraham Day to be recognized on the first Friday of December.

Consequently, we provide educators, schools and community leaders with tools and resources to recognize this important day. Education and activities can be planned for children to learn about the common origin of Judaism, Christianity and Islam in a respectful, factual and objective manner and to allow forums for students to speak positively about the commonality of these major religions.

The day should be inspirational and educational, with meaningful activities and cultural food offerings. The right to religious freedom bestowed by our Constitution should also be taught and celebrated.
